COALITION.
STATKMKX'i' PUOIiAiSLK TODAY. By Telegraph.—Special to News. Wellington, Last Night. ,Special ii)i|iiii'ies made bv your correspondent to-day, in responsible quarters, elicited thf inl'orination that the party leaders may be ready to make a statement concerning the "National Government" negotiations in the House m' Representatives to-morrow. There is no certainty on the point, but the discussion Ims been carried to a stage that verges upon finality. Probably the members of the Opposition will meet in caucus to-morrow morning, for the purpose of hearing the report of Sir Joseph Ward. What is going to happen is known only to tlio inner circle, but there is some ground for a belief that, after declining the 'offers made by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Government party, the Opposition, through its leader, lias made a proposal of its own which the Prime Minister was considering' today. The position is uncertain, but undoubtedly coalition stock is firmer. One hears in several directions that Sir .Joseph Ward, Mr. G. W. Russell, Mr. A. M. Myers, and Dr. li. McNab are going to bo associated with five Reformers in a National Cabinet, but guesses are scarcely profitable at the moment.
