In a fearful melee the Bersaglieri, most of whom were Sicilians, dropped their rifles and jumped into the trenches, fighting with knives. Eventually the Austrians fled, and the Italians' fortified the position. They were undisturbed until two in the morning, when the Austrians, strongly reinforced, counter-attacked and overpowered the Bersaglieri. Fresh Italians arrived at 3 o'clock, and the regiments recaptured the hill with the bayonet. We have since firmly held it, enabling ithe Italians to use the GradUea bridge, over) which great numbers of troops passed j on Saturday. The. Austrians are also: rushing up reinforcements.
