Nearly 800 passengers arrived in Auckland yesterday. The first train, arriving at l.:is p.m., was three days overdue, ami many of the passengers had spent four nights on the train. Jt was a trying experience' for all, the trouble commencing when the train ran into a mass of earth and boulders at Viriaka, six and it-hiilf miles south of Taumarnnui, on Thursday morning. "During the subsequent delays owing to slips and washouts the passengers were for a time short of food. There was no gas in the train, and candles in lemonade bottles were largely used for lighting purposes.
