| BOTHA'S WELCOME HOME. | A GREAT RECEPTION'. PRESENTED WITH A-SWORD OF HONOR. Received Julv 23, 5.5 p.m. Capetown. July 22. General Botha received a magnificent welcome The streets were thronged, and gaily decorated. The Mayor, in receiving General (Botha, said that all were filled -with thankfulness and admiration at the way General Botha's troops had carried out the campaign. There had been brilliant strategy, persistent energy, nrtnle chivalry, and a wise moderation in the hour of victory, whereto was due the comparative 'bloodlessness of the campaign. Received July 23. 8.30 p.m. Capetown, July 23. General Botha'received a rousing reception at the City Hall, which was crowded with delegates from all "parts of the country. A swe'd was presented to General Botha, inscribed, "Draw for G(\l and thy King, Justice and Truth." General Botha said his men had achieved a, piece of work which would contribute in the highest decree to devclope South Africa and 'pro-Tiice a bette- understanding with the white races. Their greatest enemy was not the Germans, but natural conditions. The country was the most • difficult for fighting in he had ever seen. His protest regarding the poisoning of wells made the Germans stop the 'practice. Ho applauded the action of women maintaining the farms .while their men folk were lighting. General Botha added that he intended to appeal to South Africa to erect a worthy memorial to those who had laid down their lives.
