REWARDING STRATFORD SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S SICK AND WOUNDED FUND.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —WitJ» reference to the efl'ort now being made by the Scottish Society in Stratford for the above, purpose, I beg to inform you that, at a recent meeting of my executive, it was generally recognised that the control and administration of the iSick and Wounded Fund should 'be undertaken by one organisation, and not by a multiplicity oi bodies, and. with this view in mind, it was unanimously "decided that the funds raised should be handed over to trustees for administration, such trustees to be appointed at a public meeting of the citizens of the borough and district, which the society understands is to be called by Mr. J. B. Richards, secretary to the Patriot!.' Committee, at an early date. This is still the intention of the Srottish Society. The society wishes to make it clear, bowever, that, whilst recognising that one bodv &nlv should administer such a fund, it would Tie highly unwise to say that one body only should collect monev fn>- snob, a fund, as it must be obvious that societies of different 'kinds can all use their permanent organisation to advantage in making the public collections, and each society can use peculiar and particular means and inducements towards gathering funds that could not be adopted, with any measure of success, from a composite body that bad no particular traditions or special means of appealing to racial sympathies. During the short time the work of collections; for t'lc. sick and wounded soldiers has been iroinc on. the Scottish Society has collected for this purpose no fewer than .€OOO, wastIv more than the Patriotic Committee has accumulated, and the society is eondent that it wall ultimately accumulate £IOOO, to be vested in the' trustees. It may be. that a little jealousy on the, part ofpthers at this magnificent renrd is at the root of recent distasteful innuendoes. However, that does not worry the society, w-hkh intends that the cause of the. soldier* will not be allowed to suffer tlirouuh such petty feeling, and confidently exnects that the general •nubile will appreciate the lead that it is giving in this matter, and will generously respond to-day. at the mock court, with further donations.—l am,' etc., G. SANGiSTER. President Scottish Society.
