MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. 111 a letter, addressed to the people of New Zealand, his Excellcnc.y the Govorhor acknowledges the assistance he received from the New Zealand public in Connection with the equipment of the hospital ship Malieno. Ilis Excellency fiays: —"( desire t« express my deep appreciation to all who have so generously responded to my appeal to equip thi hospital ship Maheno: I have personally given my undivided attention to sec that, while having due regard to fceonomy, she should leave these shores, ho far as it is possible, lacking nothing. My only regret is that T have not been able to thank each of the tnany donors, hut I hope they will allow 111 c, through the medium of this letter, to say how greatly T have been touched !>y the wav in which they have assisted me. 1 wish it had been possible for the Maheno to visit the various ports of tho dominion, so that everybody might have lad an opportunity of seeing her, but I am convinced that all will agree with ine. tiiat it would have been inadvisable to delay the ship's departure.
