Replying to-day to a deputation representing various interested local bodies which requested assistance for the upkeep and improvement of the Manawatu Corge road, Mr. Eraser, Minister or I'n!ilit; Works, said the nationalisation of roads could not be done in one case and not in another. If motorists were to run in competition with the railways they must pay for it, but everyone wiio wanted motor roads made a howl when the suggestion to tax then was put forward. It was impossible to construct motor roads at present. He would like to help, but he thought those who used the road most should pay for it. Wellington, Tuesday.
