THE MONTHLY MEETINO. The Xew Plymouth Borough Council met on Monday niglit; present: Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson) and Crs. L. M. MOll- - J. W. Haydcn, ■). S. M. 'Medley, S J Smith, A. H. -Johnstone, W. Short, IJ-. J. Hill, 0. A. Burgess, and .J. T. Mannix. The various reports which have already been published were adopted. SUPPLY OF METAL. Cr. J, \Y. Ilayden asked the chairman' of the works committee if he felt assured the council had an ample supply of metal for road works. Cr. S. J. Smith replied that lie did not anticipate any shortage of metal providing the contracts for the supply of metal were Completed, and he knew of no reason why the contracts should not be completed. In the meantime boulder stones were being obtained from the Waiwakaiho for use oil the, tramway route. OIL HELD UP. Mr. 0. Miller (manager of the refinery of the Taranaki Oil Wells Ltd.) wrote complaining' that the road near the oil works was impassable. It was impossible to get oil away from the works, and there was oil valued at about .till 1 ) in store which could not be sent to town owing to the bad road. The company had certain contracts to supply oil weekly and monthly, but it had been impossible to get any oil away for •several weeks past. W. Man - (carrier) made a similar protest against the state of the road. The matter was referred to Mr. F. Black, consulting engineer, who is at present in X< \v Plymouth. BALLAST FOR THE ROADS. The Kangitikei County Council wrote stating that th "> couincil contemplate open in? up s pit of first class ballast near (Jreatford railway station, with a view to obtaining a permanent supply of metal for road building and concrete work of all descriptions. It was expected to be able to put good, clean, mixed crushed shingle lit for ordinary macadam work on the wagon in the siding at about lis per cubic yard. The Mayor pointed out that the metal would cost about Ss lid landed at New Plymouth, and he did not think t'.ie council would be prepared to get a supply of this metal. I No action was taken.
