PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tha ordinary meeting of the I'arihaka Road Board was held at the board's office, Rahotu, yesterday, when there were present: Messrs Jas. Young (chairmar), T. Harvey, 5. Willoughby, A. Casnic. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman (Mr. J. P. Kennedy) reported on work done as follows:—The reinforced concrete culvert on. the Bayly Road was now completed and open'for traffic. The filling in of the approaches and metalling as well as boulders to keep tilling from falling away had been completed. The total cost was £4U. The work authorised on the top portion of tho Opourapa road, had only been party completed, as, owing to unfavorable weather, work had been suspended. Repairs to the lower end of the road had been completed. A crossing on tin? Upper Kahui road by .Mr. ifughson's stables had broken in. and bad been replaced by pipes. The bill by .Mr. •lames' had been taken down, whilst rough portions near .Mr. E. Duggau's would he gone on with as soon as possible. A letter was received from the Com. ; niissioner of Crown Lauds to the effect
that a search had heen made of the records at the Land Transfer Office, and no road had ever been set apart, proclaimed, or dedicated, and consequently' there was no legal road there. On hearing this, tho deputation on behalf of tho company offered to advance tho money if the board would undertake the work, the refund the money if the road was proclaimed a public road. It was eventually decided to defer the matter until the deputation had visited New Plymouth and endeavored to have the road doclared a public road and handed over to the local authority. GENERAL. It was resolved to dispense with the services of the present ranger and to appoint M. Coffey, jun„ to the position, providing that he was eligible for the position. Ihe Bank of New Zealand, Opunake, notified that the established overdraft of the board's general account for the ensuing year was £ISOO, the legal limit being £IB2B. Mr. Ilarvey gave notice to move at next meeting that the general rate of I i-Kid be struck, us at present, 31 r.
