MUNITIONS FACTORY EXPLOSION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, July 8. Reports statu tliat an explosion in a Canadian munition factory was caused by a cordite cutting machine jamming. Seven persons were killed, including Mr. British Government Inspector of Explosives, and seven injured. An attempt to blow up the police headqmuters tailed, but the perpetrators eacapat. The jury returned a verdict that Curran was mentally unsold when he executed his 1905 will, and that his wife hud not exercised undue influence. Judgment was given accordingly. DISASTROUS TORNADO. New York, July 8. A total of fifty persons wero killed by a tornado extending from Nebraska to Ohio. Thirty-three succumbed in Cincinnati, mostly deck hands, who wcr* drowned by tho capsizing of a river tugboat. WORK FOR THE UNEMPLOYED. Sydney, July 9.' An additional £1,300,000 » required for rolling stock. LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY. Melbourne, July 9. At a level crossing near Tunstall station a goods train wrecked a containing George Blood, his wife, and threo children. Blood and an infant were killed instantly, and Mrs. Blood later died from injuries. The other children wore seriously injured. AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. Adelaide, July 9. DEVELOPMENT OF NEW GUINEA.' Brisbane, July 9. Mr, Meek, a New Zcalander, on returning from a visit to Papua, said the people of New Guinea favored an alteration in the constitulioji and the creation of a Crown Colony consisting of Papua and German New Guinea. In the latter place things were very unsettled. There was a noticeable absence of speculation of any kind and great scarcity of ready money. If the country remained British it would lie a great opportunity for the investment of New Zealand and Australian capital. _ i A RUNAWAY TRAMCAR. - Ottawa, July 8. A trolley ear in Toronto, containing 180 persons, who were returning from a .Sunday school picnic, jumped the tracka at Queenstown. Fourteen persons were killed and SO injured, several fatally. [ The trolley jumped the wire and the brake refused to act. The ear ran madly down the hill.
