Mr. Norman Kvngdon, of tho New Plymouth branch of the Union Steamship Company, leaves this morning on transfer to the Nelson office.

Mr. E. IW. Griffiths, who has been connected with the firm of Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. for thp past eight years or so, leaves shortly for Auckland, where he intends to start in business on his own account. The members of the <Mastcrton Club on Wednesday night entertained Messrs Eric Riddiford, fi. Westmoreland, and E. I'crrv, who are joining the mounted regiment, and presented each with an automatic pistol. In the Legislative Council Chamber on Thursday a luncheon was tendered by the Hon. Sir Francis liell (leader of tiie Council) to the Hon. Sir Jl. J. Miller (Otago), who that day completed his half-century a? a legislative Councillor. The guests were limited practically to members of the Legislative Council, who heartily tongratuhitcd Mr. -Miller on his long term of office. The Ven. Areluleaeon Harper's projected departure from Wellington was referred to at Thursday's sitting of the Anglican Synod. The following resolution was carried unanimously: "That this Synod hears with regret of the projected departure from the diocese of the Ven. Archdeacon Harper, and wishes to place on record it? appreciation of his valuable servkvs rendered to the diocese and to the Church of the Province of New Zealand." On Thursday, at Manain, Dr. Xoonan was presented bv the lliberians, Oddfellows and Druids with an illuminated address on the eve of his departure for Hamilton. The address expressed appreciation of his services to the lodges during the past ten years, and regret at his departure, as he had taken a sincere interest in all philanthropic, charitable and other useful public and social affairs. A wish was expressed that a -happy future was in store for Dr. and Mrs. Xoonan and family. On Wednesday iMrs. Xoonan was presented by the ladies of <Manaia with a handsome tea set and pearl pendant. iDr. Xoonan and family left for the north by the Rarawa last night.
