DISTRICT NEWS.
TARIKI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) After postponement for two week**, the Defence Rifle Club's animal competitions \vero held on the Ist inst. at the lango on Mr. Robertson's farm. The weather was fine, but conditions for shooting very variable. There were good entries, and the matches throughout were keenly competed. Rifleman 0. Ackland carried oIT the championship, and his success was evidently very popular. The shooting committee deserve every praise for the complete arrangements made. Shooting commenced at an early hour and was completed before the light failed. Though no one managed to "strike the double" in the 200 and 500 yards match, all were agreed tfcat they kad enjoyed a really good day's sport. A pleasing feature of the meeting was the presence of a number of Tariki ladies, who provided afternoon tea for the riflemen, which was greatly appreciated. At the conclusion of the firing President J. Therkleson announced the names of the winners, which were received with applause, The champion, ( Rifleman Ackland and the ladies, with whom kit Tictory appeared to be very popular, wer» accorded hearty cheers.
