THE EMPIRE THEATRE. ■A melodrama with the curious title! of 44.5 is the main attraction at the Empire Theatre this evening. Anita Mxnvait is featured in this film. The Plot, wind! i s 0 f a sensational and mysterious character, is surrounded by 'an atmosphere of romance. The story tells » «"e Haron Barceilos, a diamond smugger, who brings a parcel of gems safely li'i-oiigh the Customs, and delivers them to ■4U--the head 0 f the gang. The baron is m love with Elaine Hall, davHi"■i' oi a diamond merchant. His suit 's not favored, however, and Elaine becomes engaged to a secret service agent, the Huron pl o ts w ith Tina, an adventuress (who is infatuated, with him) to compromise Elaine's fiance, arid she succeeds in doing tlliis, but is arrested horse ,L -Elaine visits her in prison, and obtains information that leads to the clearing of her fiance and the raiding or the smugglers' headquarters. The mysterious "413," in endeavoring to escape, steals a locomotive, but the.authorities ■wire a'hcad, and the engine is switched off the line, resulting in a terrific smash up. The identity of "413," now revealed, provides the great surprise of the piece, wliicli otherwise ends happilv.
