office burnt, owner found dead. By Telegraph.—l'wsw Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. A lire, which had a strong hold, was discovered shortly after three o'clock this morning in the ollice of the timber yards here, owned by James Cunningham, who was subsequently found dead in the ollire. Deceased was a married man, with a young family. lie came fr'om n T oodvilie a. couple of years ago. and acquired the timber business, which he con-uilerahly extended. Some time atto Cunningham met with a serious accident, anil had sufl'errd lately from insomnia. Hi' wa.s in the habit also of going bark to work in the ollice 011 account of pressure of business, lie was of a, generous disposition, and was much esteemed. , ; DWELLING DESTROYED. Wellington, Last Night. A fire early this morning destroyed a five-roomed house in Grafton Road, liosenea.th, owned by Thomas Gordon, of Pokcuo, Auckland, and occupied by ] Abraham Jones. .Mrs. Jones had been '.drying some clothes on a chair-back in front of the tire, and a spark must have ignited lihein. Jones woke up later to find the bedroom lull ol smoke. The kitchen was a mass of flames. He and »is wife had to get out by the window. Two children sleeping in anotlhcr room were retcned without difficulty. Practically nothing was saved of the .furniture. Small insurances were held by the State and Royal Exchange Oflices.
