KMPI.RE PICTURES, . A new programme ot' pictures was screened ait the Empire on Saturday. The leading number in the bill is "Australia's Unknown," in which are shown many of the things which may lie seen in portions of the vast area of Australian teritory, winc'li is almost unknown. The. pictuies were taken by (Messr* liirtles and Hurley, who toured from Sydney to North Queensland in a motorear. The result of their enterprise is a serreg of films which are highly instructive and very interesting. The Australian Mack is caught "at home," and many glimpses are obtained of the "Never, Never," of .which most people Who read never wisTi to visit. The land-and-water inhabitants of this expansive out-back country are -pictured, and a general idea of the hunting methods of the natives is given. Among the other items is a drama of the "'modern burglar" type. It is entitled "Thumb Prints and Diamonds," shows the up-to-date (sykes at work after the diamonds, shows Kate at work after the ihief, and Cupid at work after several people. The chief comedy is an excellent picture prouiiced by the Keystone Co., entitled, "Among the 'Mourners." It is the story of a mournful undertaker, who reckons lie lias a grievance because his wife does not love him. Ilis business partner (thinking of Ms own chances with the aforesaid wife) advises him to feign death. The idea is accepted, and it provides great opportunities for fun-making. The deceased and the mourners are amongst the most amusing people who ever sorrowed. The other films are all entertaining.
