THE ENEMY.
To tlio Editor. i Sir, —"Mr. Llovd George, the gr n at Bri- J tisher, said in a wont speech, "Wo arc ' fighting -three great enemies—Germany, Austria and the drink traffic; and the worst of the three is tile liquor enemy." While onr press is full of paragraphs and articles against the German and Austrian horrors, how little is said about the other one! Russia has swept the liquor business awav, and lias already made up her loss of sixty-two millions of so-called revenue, and this great nation will win out. Xow, Sir, Franco, by an overwhelming majority, has declared by iParliamcntary enactment for straightout prohibition. The law now prohibits the manufacture, sab or export of any akehol'c liquor. An amendment to make .it, for the time "£ tlio war only was refused by M. Ribot, .Minister Finance, and now total -prohibition of the liquol l trade is statutory law, with dire penalties for broaches. Surely it is up to Xfiv Zealand to follow our Allies in this matter. Trusting the people of Xew Zealand and her Parliamentary, members will wake to a. sense of their responsibilities on this nuost-ion. —T am, etc., - ' C. D. SOLE. (Stratford, June 20.
