■ "'■/ annual micmting of THE ASSt* CIATjON. s (By Our Special Eeporlcr.) TJie annual meeting of the Ayrshire wreodersit' Association was held at ptfmerston North <>n Wednesday cveninft •Mi. I'. QLlls, president, presiding over >• ' ii good attendant eof members. A» apology was received for the abscne# ".V----<u air. 11. 11. Olson, a vice-president,"who j;-- >-> i.l in New Plymouth, A votc«of syinpathy was accorded iMr. Olson. .V REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. ''} The report showed that the year had '"''vi been fairly satisfactory from the am>ciation's point of view. Tlu rules had been revised, the chief alterations being - as to the date of the annual meeting and the Increased subscription. (As fn as could he seen, the increase in the subscription fee had not had any de- ; trimental effect upon membership, and it was estimated that the extra revenue ' received would enable them to do some- . thing more towards bringing the breed I before the public. A display of photoI graphs at the Winter Show had proved 1 ]of considerable interest. It was hoped ; that the display would be improved OK ■at future shows. Definite date for.Of I tries for Vol. V. of the. Herd Boqjc woutit I close on December 31. It, was hoped :•••' ; mtinlicrs would forward their entries early. Reference was made to the war, J and also to the fact that Ayr&ire breed- ! ers were taking their part. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit of £7B IBa Id. In moving its adoption, the chairman said that members had every reason to > be proud of the display, small though it was. They should pay more attention to utility cattle. ft was nice to have good cuttle to look at, but thing more was wanted. Another mattor -was the opposition shown to tba semi-official testing in some quarter*. This was entirely wrong. and figures were the only proof of the utility of stock. This, he felt, would result ill the greatest beneifit to 'breeders generally. 'Mr. I), Buchanan, in seconding, said - that, after a tour of Australasia, he was of the opinion that their stock wonld • compare very favorably with any he bad j seen. He considered that, on account of the drought, a good market was open* ing in Australia for t'he sale of Nedr Zealand Ayrshires, provided the breed was of the right quality. The president 'put in a' strong appeal for scmi-ofli: ial testing. , ISeveral menfbers, while, agreeing with the "principle, thought tlvat the fee ol £3 33 per cow charged by the Government was too high. The report was adopted. THE HERD BOOK. "v.. Tn accordance with notice of motion, Mr. D. 'Buchanan moved: That photographs of purAred Ayieshire animals lie accepted for insertion in the association's .Herd Book, upon application, and on payment'of a fe« to be fixed toy the association. All photographs to be put in on the committee's approval, and own- ' ers of photographs and animals must 1» members of the association, and such nnials must have a number, or "be eligible for a number in the association's Herd Book. After a little discussion, in \\liich members expressed the opinion that it was inadvisable to utilise the Herd Book a» an advertising medium, it was considered that it wonld be better to have a separate, book for the purpose. . The motion was withdrawn. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follow: —Tatron, Mr. A. Mcf'arlane (Dunedinl; president, Mr. F. Mills (Tokaora); vicepresidents, Messrs. 11. H.
