Mr. .T. G. Harkness stated at the meeting of the Wellington Harbor Board recently that the time was coming when the export of butter would be a thing of tho past, and instead of lifitter cheese would be exported. Last year 30,000 tons of cheese was exported, and this year, given a favorable season, upwards of 45,000 tons would bcYscnt away. A Wellington telegram says that on Monday night it was telegraphed that the 'Mayor of Wellington was calling a nutating for July 2 of mayors and chairmen of patriotic societies throughout the dominion to decide whether a national or provincial fund should he established. It has now been announced that the meeting applies only to mayors and chairmen in. Wellington., Hawke's Bay and Taranaki districts.

An unusually dense fog hung over the coast in the vicinity of Cook Strait on Thursday and invaded Wellington harbor. As a rule the local fog clears as the day progresses, but yesterday the weather became rather thicker at times. Vessels were compelled to move slowly, and their whistles were heard almost; continuously. The Maori was four hours late in arriving from Lyttelton. Rain was almost incessant, but the temperature, was mild.

Tho De Burgh Adams Lodge of Free Masons (Irish constitution) celebrated its 51st Anniversary on Thursday. ■ The installation took place in the evening, when Bi'o. The installation banquet was afterwards held in the Brougham Street Hall, when the usual toasts were honored, tho musical ceremony being omitted on account of the war.

A. Parkinson; vice-president, 'Mr. M. Fraser: executive, Messrs. J. D. 'Sole, W. E, Percival, S. Smith, A. K. Smart and G. Smart; treasurer, Mr. 0. N. Firth; auditor, Mr. W. N. Ewing. It was decided to recommend" Colonel Collins as the representative of the Taranaki Council on the Dominion of NewZealand Bowling Association Council. Tt was also resolved to make the Banner a challenge competition. The annual tournament will be held as usual, and the champion of champions singles will again be held. A meeting of New Plymouth civil servants wan held at the Magistrate's Court yesterday to devise ways and means to assist tile, war funds. Mr. Rossiter was elected chairman, and (Miss E. C. Gideon secretary. 'Mr. W. Ainsworth said he considered the time had arrived to 'form a social club of their own. If this was done, many functions could ibe arranged by the club in aid of the funds. A ladies' football match had also been suggested. The chairman thought the. suggestion of a social club was a good one. 'Miss Hammond proposed that a social evening 'be held with combined attractions. This was seconded, and carried. A committee was (hen appointed, as follows:—Misses Gideon (secretary), C.reatbach. Hammond. Woodman. -Mount, and Warren, Mewrs. Good, Ainsworth, Meed. Moverlev, White, Denis, Fennell, Smith, Arnol'd. and Boulton, with power to add to the number.

Mr. .1. Crofsky's dairy herd at Lepperton is very well known to all his neighbors, and wo would just remind them that his clearing sale will he held on Tuesday next. In addition to the cows, there is a big list of farm implements and tools, and also sonic good laying hens and 'pullets. 'Farmers throughout the Taranaki Province this season seem to be throwing themselves back upon the milking Shorthorn again, and we think there will be a. rush for good bulls in the spring. To those in search of proved dairy cows of this type, we would suggest attending 'Messrs. Mofl'itt and Goodwin's sale, at Pungarehn Wednesday. These vendors have been breeding very carefully for years, and they must now have a very fine herd.
