EXHIBITION OF CURIOS.
7 * IN AID OF NEW ZEALAND STATION- * ARY HOSPITAL. _ The recently formed "Membership of Stones," whose object is to raise fund* in aid of the No. 1 New Zealand Station- . /, ary Hospital, held a most interesting exhibition of curioß at the flood Templar Hall yesterday, from wliieli it is antfei- , patcd a substantial sum will be rakeO. Tho society has a membership of 151, and all combined enthusiastically u> make the exhibition a success. In Uii* they succeeded beyod expectation,' and the display was unique. It included * very large collection of curios of a most varied description, which were attractively staged and every item of which « was of interest.
One section of the exhibition wag devoted to medals. This collection, which was especially interesting at tho present time, included medals won in the Crimea, tho Indian Mutiny, and tho Maori and Boer wars. There were tho Waterloo, China, and Sutlej medals, Now Zealand medal, Crimea medal, Turkish Crimea medal, the Victoria Cross, Baltic medal, Indian Mutiny Medal, New Zealand Cross, the Afghanistan and Egyptian medals, Egypt Bronvw Star, Indian med- ' ' al, Queen's South African and King'* South African medals. In the sports * ~ medal collection was one which is quite unique in New Zealand, the. Ladies' Golf ; , Union gold medal. The competition for ': ■. this is always played at Home, and only '!■ silver medallists (of whom there is one J in each club belonging to the union) of the previous year may compete Hu- r ■■- mane Society, horticultural, school, and other medals were also on view. Ther* was a most attractive display of silver, " ! Sheffield plate, brass, copper lustre, pewter, antique jewellery, coins, china, mini- , . ntures, ancient door knockers, and many very beautiful and interesting things ; brought from Home and abroad. There ( was also a section for models of every /'* description, and many of the numerous V entries, m the construction of which \ ,;: much skill and patience wero evidently • required, were generally admired. There were nlso stalls at which'sweet- : V meats and other foodstuffs and fancywork were offered for sale. These wero m charge of tthe members of the society ' ' and Miss Stanford's girls. A furthersource of revenue was morning and afternoon tea.
