FACTORY MANAGERS' ASSOCIATION.

AXXCAL MEETLXifi. i (By Our Special Reporter.) Tlio annual meeting of tlu ; Xew Zea_ land Dairy factory Managers' ■Association was hold i?j tlio committee rooms at Palmerston Xorth Winter Show oil Tuesday evening, when Mr. W. 0. Dixon, 1 hames Valley, presided oyer- a large attendance of. iiiemliers. AX\ipAL RiEPOHT. Tim sixth annua] report stated that' tile chief feature engaging the association s attention was tin.* endeavor of reviewing managers' salaries, the discussion of a more uniform and classified base whereby system and remuneration could alike be reckoned with by both employer and employee, and outlining pf a minimum scale of salaries that: would meet the general approval of the industry as a standard to go by. With ■ tins end .in view, the la st, annual meet-!

I 'ng appo:nted a strong committee to' draw up a classified scale to be sub'mitted to an adjourned meeting, the result being the further appointment of 'Messrs. -Dixon, Middleton, C'oe-per, West, Sinclair, Trving and Murray as a delegation to meet the directors of the National Dairy Association for the purpose of obtaining its approval of the scale and so gaining the support of the Xa_ tiona] Dairy Association membejs by its -adoption. The delegates,'with the ex. ception of .Messrs. Sinclair and" Irvine, who could not attend, met the Xational Dairy Association Executive in Wellington on September 3, and, after lengthy, discussion, the scale, with slight altcra-

tion, 'was adopted, copies being 1 printed and posted to all factory managers and directorates. While a few managers and dim-tors were not in sympathy with tlie scale, tlie association's action met with general approval, and was tlie means of swelling tlie membership, which has now reached 102. A circular appeal \vas also sent to all non-members outside the Southland Union, and this met with hearty response-. The move- j ment had occasioned heavy expenditure, I hut the excutive considered that the ] results would have a far-reaching effect, ' I and would move than compensate for j j any monetary outlay of the association's I funds. The balance in hand of £24 lis !!<! must he considered very satisfactory, ft ivas with deep regret the executive had to record tV. death of a devoted member of the association, in the per- 1 son n f Mr. Sydney 'Morris, of Pukekohe. The late Mr. Morris was one of the industry's most active men, and those who had the good fortune of his acquaintance proclaimed him a man of the highest integrity and most amiable disposition. The 'president, on behalf of thi- association, procured a wreath for the grave, and it was desired here to convey the heartfelt sympathy of the association to the 'bereaved family. Tt would be unfitting to close this report without making reference to the great tria] through which our-nation was pass ing, and it was with hearts knit together in loyalty to our country and our 'Empiie that we say: " (iod speed and a safe return to our countrymen who were offering their life's blood for the cause of freedom and justice: as well as a speedy overthrowing by. an omnipotent power of military despotism and avarice."

In moving the adoption of the report, tlie chairman referred to the expense entailed in comic 'tion with tlie salaries award. The efforts of the association in arrani'-ng - this scab- had overclouded anv pi-ogres* in ether directions.
