' i ' AN IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY. SKVKRAL TARANAKI OTUSRSSES. (By Wire.—Special Reporter.) Paimerston .V., Last Night. Prospects for the I'almerston .Show, which opens to-morrow, look good. The weather is cold but threatening, and the town is crowded with visitors. Butter and cheese wore judged to-day by olliccrs of the Dairy Department. There are splendid entries in each class, and the exhibits are well staged. The quality all round is good, and the judges are well pleaswl with the uniformity of butter. The cheese, compared with last year, shows a great improvement in quality, a noticeable feature being the closeness of body, such a necessary feature in cheese for export. Last year openness was a noticeable feature, but the managers evidently have overcome that. In butter Awahuri was the most successful, winning three classes and the championship, and thus maintaining its reputation put up at-Hamilton and X'ew Plymouth. Levin, Cheltenham, and Thames Valley also won classes. Omata Jensen) won in the class for the best box of butter from home separated cream. Other Taranaki factories competing in butter classes are:—Ngaere, Xorth Taranaki, Moa Farmers, Midhirst, and Lepperton. North Taranaki are the most successful, being bracketed first, with 041 points, with four others in export, butter, uml third in the class for the cup presented by the Shaw, Ravill and Albion Company. Taranaki cheese factories are prominent on t]jc cheese prize list."" Hawera is first with 05} points for colored cheddar, luut wins the challenge cup for the highest jibints in colored and white. Cardiff iliitl Dalefield tie in two classes. Pai'kvilin, Cardiff, and Dalefield each ivon a class. Kaupokonui is placed in several classes. 'ilio Championship points prize is annexed Jby Cardiff ivith 2841 points, Kaupokonui £B} points, Dalefield 202} points.
