MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Moa Road Hoard was held at jnglewood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs H. Trimble (chairman), J. Bridgeman, W. G. Shocmark, G. Capper, ''■. Clough, M. Hopson, J. Hucker, J. Williams, and A. E. Laurence. ROAD OVERSEER'S REPORT. The road overseer reported that lie had inspected the sites for a depot as suggested, and considered the present site the best of the three under notice. He suggested procuring a small scoop to assist in making water tables. Seventeen pipes had been made during j the month. A considerable amount of patching iiad been done on the Hursthouse road, and general cleaning work carried out on most of the roads. Two culverts were blocked on the. Bedford and Dudley roads, which required attention, and wooden culverts on the Dudley road required renewing l . Maintenance work had been carried out on the Lepper, Rugby, Norfolk, and Mountain roads. A portion of the Durham ro>td had been recoated and other parts patched. Mr. Mareen requested assistance in the work of forming a portion of the I Bedford Road. General cleaning and maintenance work had also been don-.; on the Mangaone, Kaimata, and Durham (west) roads. A part of tiie Everett Road had been re-metalled, and general cleaning and patching had been done on other roads in the district. The overseer was empowered to secure a scoop as suggested. Tt was agreed to attend to the several culverts as recommended by the overseer. Mr. Shoemark asked if the board could do anything for the Lepper road. i"£e asked if it would be possible to get a subsidy from the Government. The chairman considered that ths Government would only subsidise new metalling, and not maintenance work. It was decided to make application for assistance. U RATE TO BE STRUCK. The chairman moved that the rate for the coming year be Jd in the £. They could not possibly do with less, an.l might in the near future require more. This rate would produce £2402. Mr. Capper, in seconding, said he fully realised that this amount was necessary for keeping the roads in good order, and thus for the general benefit of the settlers. The motion was then put and carried unanimously. The chairman stated that before the next meeting he would review the special rates, which might possibly be reduced somewhat. He would do this, wherever possible. GENERAL. A petition was received from three settlers to re-grade the hill near Mr. BJackhourn's propcrty.—lt was decided to hold this matter over until the summer, as the road would be impassable if the metal was taken off at the present time. The Hon. 0. Samuel notified the board that he would take charge of a Bill to constitute a new comity with an area corresponding to that of the Moa Road District, should it pass the House, of Representatives during the coming session.—Received. It was also decided that the chairman and Mr. Capper bo anpointcd to visit Wellington and give evidence before, the Local Bills Committee m connection with this Bill. The chairman reported that the Bill had bc-n prepared. Accounts amounting *o £2lO !)s 4d were passed for payment.
