THE RAHOTU ROAD
(To the Editor.) Sir, —T agree with your correspondent, V. Tyrcll, Unit tin 1 metalling of the Raliotu Road is a disgrace, but the disgrace lips in tl\o .fact that tbo members of tlic Parihaka l?oad Hoard should have lent themselves to such a piece of jobbery as to metal over half a. mile of road with rates tliat the Rahotu Road had no right to whatever. Tiie road is used iby only one man, and his rates will he a long time paying for it, seeing they are only about ,CS per year, | and a. portion of this should go to tne Tiower Kahul Road. The board is not doing its duty ill allowing certain settlers to farm about, n mile of the board's road, for which they pay nothing, j What about your promise, JIY. Tyrcll, j to keep gorse clear o(T the road between ; your place and Fleming's? The'board 1 gave you time to do it. Did you clear or keep clear the goi'so. It js a sandy road, and it was no worse when the metal was put 011 it than it lia-d ever been. I have known it for seventeen years, and I think it did not require the people's rates spent 011 it, while the Upper Kahoi Road is in the state it is. The board has a right to keep road accounts. The Adt says: "When a road district is divided into ivards, ward accounts shall be kept," not " may be kept."—l am, etc., PAUL WILLCOX. (We have taken the liberty of expunging certain passages from our cone spondent's letter.—Ed., DJN'.)
