RAILWAY PATRIOTIC CONCERT.

A GREAT SUCCESS. The patriotic concert organise! 'by the Xew Plymouth railway stall was held at the Theatre Royal last evening and proved an unqualified success in every way. The effort was in aid of the fund being raised to aid Xew Zcalanders wounded at the front, or their dependents, and the very substantial sum of £94 lis od will be handed over to the fund. The hall was decorated with bunting, and on the stage, which presented a very pretty appearance, were a miniature railway .signal and a large bearing a representation of a train steaming at full speed. X'le attendance was very large, all the accommodation downstairs being occupied, while there was a good number in the circle. The programme, which was a lengthy: one, was much better than is usually provided by local effort, and was heartily appreciated, as is evidenced by tiie fact that every item was encored. It included items bv the Citizens' Band, and physical drill by a squad of lads from the Central School, which were well executed and evoked hearty annlause. The instrumental items also included cornet solos by Mr. G. Buckley, excitant pion cornet soloist of Xew Zealand, riolin solos by blaster 15. Moverley, and banjo melodies by iMr. Gadd. Those who contributed vocal items were: Misses Ivy Scott, Xorris, Rosina Bea, ,Veta Gilbert, and McGtiire; and Messrs F. Ashcr, Xorris, G. Lambert, J. Haslam, L. Smith and Key. A recitation, "The Day," given by Mr. Goldsworthy, was much enjoyed. One of the most popular items was a topical double bv Messrs Smith and Key, entitled "Who Smashed ■Bill Kaiser?'', which created much amusement and was accorded ai full measure of applause. The accompaniments were played by Misses George, Henderson. Gilbert ami Pike, and Messrs Golding and Gardner. T'lose responsible for lhr> arrangements in connection with the concert, are to be heartily congratulated 011 the result of their efforts. The committee was as follows: —Messrs S. G. Smith (chairman), F. Gardiner (secretary), Key, Pratt, Peach, Pellew, Xeill, B. IT. Gardner, Ridodch, Connolly, Reed. MeFarlane, 'Matthews, Thomson, Donohue, Lendrum, and .llorsnell.
