THE NEW HOSPITAL.
OFFERED FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS. THE OFFER ACCEPTED. At the meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday the following letter was read from Dr. Valintine (Inspec-tor-General of Hospitals):— ''l understand your Board has been pleased to place- at the disposal of the Government the new hospital at New Plymouth, capable of accommodating 200 beds, in the event of the institution being required for the sick and wounded from the front. I should be very pleased if you would convey to the members of the Board the thanks of the Government for their generous offer, which it has no hesitation in accepting. I understand that the building will not be available for the above purpose for some time, but hopo to be able to give you adequate notico in case it should bo found necessary to take advantage of your Board's generosity." A further letter was read from tho Inspector-General of Hospitals in reference to the accommodation of sick and wounded from the seat of war. It stated that the boards would be given due notice, so that necessary arrangements could be made, which might involve sending more or less chronic cases, whi:h now occupy hospital beds to their own homes. It might be possible subsequently to draft some of these cases to houses In the neighborhood which had been offered as convalescent homes, and he suggested that the board should invite persons who had suitable houses in the neighborhood of the hospitals to offer thorn as convalescent homes. The board heartily approved of the suggestion.
