GREATER EFFORT URGED.

TO SET EXAMPLE TO REST OF - EMPIRE. Auckland, June 14. The raising of the expeditionary fore to a strength of 50,000 was urged T>s Lieutenant; Colonel A. M. Myers during the, course of an address to a portion of the military forces at the Baptist Tabernacle yesterday afternoon. "I venture to say that' hi New Zealand there are no less than 100,01)1) mqn between the ages oif twenty and forty years whs have not registered," said Colonel Myers, "The State should ask every one ot these men, unless: they are physically unfit or have dependents to provide for, to register at once." Continuing, Lieutenant-Colonel Myert said it would be a wise action if the age-limit were extended to fifty years. The Federal Minister for Defence had staited that there had been a falling-off in registrations in Australia. In tha past New Zealand had always given a lead in patriotic matters. He thoughi it would be a good tiling if the New Zealand Government informed the Imperial authorities that it was prepared to raise the strength of the expeditionary force from 30,000 to 50,000. A force of 60,000 would not be more than our just quota; it Would have a great moral effect on New Zcalanders at the front il they heard that large muirners of their fellow-countrymen were coming to assist them in the gigantic struggle. In this war, where our men were fighting for so much, it was meet that New Zealand should set an example to the whole .Empire in the manner he had indicated. Lieutenant-Colonel Myers Teferred to the fact that in the Old. Country souio 70,000 -women were engaged in civil and military work. He was sure that if necessary the women of the Dominion TTOWId follow their example.
