. IN <A' 'BAD POSITION. (STATEMENT $& .CHAIRMAN. At the Stratford Counfy Council-meet-ing yesterday, the ehaimiSlv referring to the county's financial position, stated that there was over £IOOO -raf.es.' out : , standing. He pointed otit that the county was in a bad position at the' corresponding period of the previous year, hut was in oven a worse position at the present time. They would have to keep their expenditure down. Their vouchers at the corresponding period last year were £750. and were now £179!), an increase of £1049. Their overdraft was now £IO,OOO. They had about £3OOO to carry them through to December. They were £1207 worse off than last year. ■A Councillor: That's all right, Mr. Chairman. The chairman said it was all wrong. A lot of their hridges were in a dilapidated condition, and it was quite evident that if they passed the estimates to be (brought before them that day they would have to wait until the rates came in. They should think twice before deciding to have a lot of work done. It appeared to him that they would be bound to keep down their expenditure. Would the council sue for the outstanding ratesT Cr. Anderson moved that the council sue. for outstanding rates imediately. Cr. Christoffell seconded, and it was unanimously agreed to.
