Tlffi WHEA/r MARKET. London, Juno 13. Wheat.-JJull; a shilling decline. In- ; dian ami other sorts are nominal. The wheat and ilour afloat are 2,970,000 ' quarters, for the Continent 3,105,000 quarters, Atlantic shipments 553,000 quarters, Pacific nil. The total to Europe is 1,115,000 quarters, including India 237,000 and Argentine 184,000 quarters. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Per Press Association. ■Wellington, June 14. Following is the High Commissioner's cablegram, under date June 12 (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Meat. —Thero is poorer demand for I all grades of meat on account- of the I high .prices ruling, together 'with the hot weaJther. Mutton.—The market remains firm, owing to t'ho s'r- 1 ; supply available for the general public. Canterbury 7d, heavy-weights <s%d; North Island 7d for lightweight, ordinary quality o%d; ewes '6% d. Lamb—The market is weaker, though not actually lower. Canterbury B%d for beat quality light-weight. Beef. —New Zealand beef not quoted. Cow hinds are selling as high as 7 ] / 2 <l, 'fores Ovid, chilled hinds B'/ 4 d, fores 7%d. Butter.—The market is steady and prices firm, ©anish 140s to Mfls, New Zealand ,140s to 1425, Australian 13Gs to 139s and up to Mfls, Siberian 130s to d 325, Argentine 138s to 138s, Irish creamery 138s to 144 a. Cheese.—During the week the tone of the cheese market has completely changed. The market closed dull, with less inquiry, and prices are declining. Canadian, white flfis to 975, colored 94s to 9fe; New Zealand, white 9fis to 98s, colored 95s to 975, and up to OSs; United States, in fair demand, 92s to 955.
Hemp.—The market is quiet, and small business doing. The Manila output continues large, owing to stocks of old grading coming forward for shipment 'before the export is prohibited by the law coming into force at the end of June. The output/from Manila for the week ended June 5 was 2800 bales. Fair current-Manila, ;E39; New Zealand, limited demand exists for near positions, but forward shipment is neglected. Business has been done with good fair grade at £33 10s, and with high points fair at £3l to £3l ilOs; fair is quoted at ,€1 per ton less. The stock of 'New Zealand hemp at the end of May was 583 tons. 'Hops.—The market is quiet and Jirm. English 84s to UOs, Califomian 70s to 955.
Wool.—Prices for medium and coarse crossbred of all grades are unchanged, but prtees for merino and fine crossbreds of all grades have advanced. Current Bradford quotations for tops are: 3(i's (low crossbreds) 2s Id, 40's (low crossbreds) 2s 2d, 44's (medium crossbreds) 2s 3'/ 3 d, 50's (halfbreds) 2s 7y 2 d, 58's (quarterbreds) 2s 9'/ a d, 'oo's (merinos) 3s Id. Wheat. —Tlie market has declined further on account of American and Canadian crop prospects and Indian Government pressure to sell. The demand is only hand to mouth. Canadian AprilJune shipment 535, American July-Au-gust -Mis fid, August-September 46d, Argentine very little offering. Oats.—The market is quiet and email business doing. 'Argentine afloat 25s Gd, June-July shipment 265. Scheelite.—(Blackwcll's quotations for scheelite range from 35s to 37s per unit. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Monday, June 7, at our Toko yards we bail a fair entry, all of which we were able to clear at the following prices:—Small wcaner heifers lis to 17s ■Gd, store cows £4 5s to £4 13s, empty heifers £2 15s to £3 5s Gd, springing heifers £'fi to £7 15s, dairy cows £7 15s, a'/s-yenr steers £O, in-calf heifers £4 5s to .£4 15s.
On the same day at Sentry Hill, for Mr. J. Penticost's clearing sale, we had a good attendance. The cows were a good-conditioned line, a fair number showing a lot of Jersey. These were keenly competed for, but other grade sorts, small and late, considerably reduced the average, which, however, made £7 18s for the herd of 33. Choice cows showing well in calf realised from £9 10s to £l2 10s, good sorts £0 15s to £8 10s, small and backward £4 10s to £5, grade hull £0 15s, well-grown 2-year Jersey heifers £5 5s to £6 15s, late calvers £4, wcaner heifers (exceptionally -well done) £4 10s Gd. The sundries and implements were in good order and met with brisk bidding, prices being as follow:—Mitchell drill £lB, disc, harrows £lO ss, Tyne harrows £2 10s, tripods £5 15s, mower £l2 ss, roller £l4 15s, S.F. plough £2 ss, 19-month filly £2O, farm horses £ls to £23 10s.
At Stratford on Tuesday, June 8, there was only a fair entry of cattle and two small pens of sheep. Buyers were present in good numbers, the demand being much in excess of the supply, and good prices were realised. Good cows, in fact, anything with condition on, were inquired for. Fat cows made from £8 15s to £9 10s, fat heifers £6 7s to £B, forward cows £5 to £(t 7s fid. storecows £3 15s to £4 Ss (id, aged cows with condition up to £5 10s, poor, aged cows £1 12s to £2 12s f!d, emptv heifers £2 8s to £2 18a Gd, in-calf heifers 2year £4 8s to £4'l6s, springing heifers £4 to £0 7s fid, dairy cows £6 ]>ss, 18-month steers £3 13s (id, stags £4, bulls £fi 10s, wcaner heifers £1 2s fid (very few yarded), fat steers £8 10s, aged ewes 4s 3d to fte %1. On Wednesday, Juno 9, for our Stony River sale there was a small entry, which sold at improved rates, as follow: Mixed weaners 30s lid. weane,- heifers ,245, small weiine]' steers 29s lid, small wcaner heifers 10s, choice 2-vear Jersey heifers (calved! £7 12s (id, forward cow's £4 15s to £6 14s, store cows £3 to '£3 18s, springing heifers £O. .
