Penn respectiveMr. and Mrs. Campbell MacDiarmid, who have been the guests of Mrs. D. K. MacDiarmid, New Plymouth for a few days, have returned to Hamilton. Mrs. Newton King, who has been on a short visit to Auckland, has returned. I »•* » | The friends of Mrs. T. C. List will be glad to know that, though still incapacitated, she is making a good recovery from her recent accident. * * t The teaching staff of St. Mary's Sunday School arranged a very jolly little social last Tuesday evening in St Mary'* Hall, to bid farewell to the Rev. F. A. Crawshaw, who ia leaving New Plymouth shortly to take up mission work at Norfolk Island. The principal entertainment of tho evening was progressive games, which produced heaps of fun, after which a dainty supper was served in one of the off rooms. Mr. S. Shaw, on behalf of the teachers, presented Mr Crawshaw with a camera, which was followed by the singing of "For he's a jolly good fellow." Mr Crawshaw feelingly responded. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
Agricultural Show.—The opening ceremony of the Taranaki Winter Show was performed by the Premier, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, last Wednesday, at tho Coronation Hall. Mr. J. S. Social. —A very enjoyable social was given by the members of St. Mary's choir, at the vicarage, kindly lent by Mrs. A. H. Colvile, last Thursday evening. The aggregates of the three competitions were won by Miss S. Thomson, and Mr Hill Johnson, while Mrs. Moverley and Mr. Horsnall were the recipients of the "booby" prizes. Amongst those present were: Mrs. A. H. Colvile, Wilkes, Misses Crooke (2), Greatbatch, Thomson (2), Hirst, Campbell, Hine, Hall, Pope, Putt (2), Dowling, Clinc, Rcnaud and Messrs Hill-Johnston, Hirst, Espiner, Mackay, Rcnaud, Newsham, Revs. A. H. Colvile and F. A. Crawshaw.
A very quiet little wedding was soleinised iu St. Mary's Church. Fast Thursday, when Miss E. S. Mullcr, New Plymouth, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. Charles Harris, of Napier. The ceremony was performed by tho Veil. Archdeacon Evans. The
brido was given away by herbrothar, Mr. A. Muller, and Miss K. Muller acted as bridesmaid. Mr. Brabant acted as heat man. The wedding breakfast was Ifeld at Mrs. Tunbrddge's, Buller street. The happy couple left by the afternoon traia, on route for Napier, their future home. •AN AWAKINO LETTER. (From a Correspondent). Miss IMarie Avery entertained her friends at a social in the Awakino Hall on June 3 before her returning to school. Dancing was indulged in, and excellent music was supplied by Mesdames McNiece and lOhristoffeson and Mr. C. Luche. Mr. W. Cowan was M.O. The supper ta/bles were weighted with delectable viands and were presided over by the hoßtess, assisted by IMesdames Lake and B&ttty, who looked after the wants of all. During the evening songs were contributed by Mrs. McNiece, Mr. Trchburn and Mr. Bathurst. Miss Avery received her guests in a pretty tblack velvet dress, relieved with lace. Mrs. Avery wore a cream lace robe; Mrs. W. Elack, black, with handsome black silk opera coat; Mrs. Bryant, pretty cream; Mrs. B. Condon, black velvet; Misses Oarrington (two), cream; Mrs. McNiece, pretty lace robe over red; Mrs. Brough, black; Mrs. Christoffeson, grey; Mrs. Hodgen, grey; Mrs. Morton, black; Mrs. Whitehead, cream, relieved with black; Miss Waring, pretty blue silk, Oriental trimming; Miss Rockcll, cream; Miss McNiece, white; Miss 1/a'kc, pale Wue; Miss Lake, brown; , Miss Morton, white; Miss Hodgen, white, ' pink sash; Miss Parr, pretty cream, . The evening was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld 'Lang Syne" and '. f( She's a jolly good fellow."
