MESSAGE FROM GENERAL GODLEY. Ilokitika, June 11. Recently the Wcstland County Council sent an appreciative message, through the Defence- Office, to General Godley, recognising the splendid work done by the Australians and New Zealanders in. the Dardanelles. The following reply has been received by Mr. Clifton, chairman of the Wcstland County Council:— "On behalf of the New Zealand Expeditionary For*, and the Wcstland men in particular, I thank you for your kind cable. Tho gallantry of the New Zealandcrs has been unsurpassed.—Godley, Tencdos, June 8." SOUTHLAND MEN FAREWELLED. Invcrcargill, Last Night. In glorious weather and in tho presence of ail immense crowd a public farewell was tendered to the Seventh Southland Reinforcements in the Post Office Square this afternoon, the Mayor and other public citizens being the speakers. The men, numbering a hundred and ' twentv.-fivc marched through the town headed by a regimental band, proceeding being most enthusiastic, and of a patriotic nature. The city was gaily bellagged. The men leave for Trcntham by the morning express.
