DTfONjUtH. (From Our Own Corrcspoadeirt). tH 6 S rdin J My m ? nth, y meeti "S «* the Town Board waa held on Monday evening Messrs W. C. Dudley (chairman). U. A. Mullen, C. Sorrcsen and D. Boss being present. Town delivery.-Mr. Wilkinson MP wrote that he -was in communication' with the Department with the object of obtaining a daily delivery of mail matter in Opunake—The Board had rcferi red the matter to Mr. Wilkinson after the Board's futile efforts with the postal authorities. Extra maiL—Mr. Moore wrote urging the Board to obtain an extra mail by the afternoon ibus to New Plymouth, and a more lengthened stay of the Eltham and Manaia trases at mid-day in Qpunake.— It was pointed out that a! deputation had already met the inspector of the Postal Department and asked for a more convenient delay, but this could not be granted, as it would interfere with the daily mail from Opunake catching the Wellington mail train. In regard to the extra mail, the BoUrd were cognisant of the difficulty, as it practically meant a new mail contract and would make it necessary for keeping a postal, servant at the office'late eaeh evening;— The Board decided to forward the request to the Department and will support the request. J Mr. Lewis, manager of the Princess I Pictures, waited on the Board desiring an option of the Town Hall for a picture show once a week. The manager particularly wanted Wednesday night, but the Board could not sec its way to grant that night, as it is reserved for the local functions. It was decided to give the Princess Picture Company the right to select either Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. On the other nights, it is taken on Monday for weekly dance assembl.es Wednesday for local functions on the half-holiday night, and Saturday the business people do not like to see it taken.
The clerk reported that he would have particulars necessary for going to the public for a water and drainage borrowing scheme by next meeting. The foreman (A. C. Donnelly) reported that it was necessary to have a concrete crossing laid down in the main street to the garage; that a mound near the Farmers' Co-operative store required lowering; ft nd the road from Mr. Mullon's factory to Havelock street required metalling. These works were authorised.
The Board did not grant any consideration to Mr. Moore's application for a crossing to Mr. Goldic's property at Longfellow road, as it was always the tenant's or owner's responsibility. Aceounta amounting to about" £4O were passed for payment.
The same members sat as the Cemetery and Domtain Board and dealt with routine business.
