GOLF,
WITIORA CLUB. At Witiora the ladies will play the second round for the aggregate prize to-day.. INTERESTING FOUR-BALL MATCH. WIN FOR PROFESSIONALS. The four-ball match at Miramar (Wellington) on Saturday afternoon, Mr. A. Duncan and Mr. J. Watt against E. S. Douglas and J. McCormick, was followed by about three hundred enthusiasts, and it is safe to say that a more interesting match, or a finer exhibition of the game, lias seldom been seen in Wellington, says the Dominion. Douglas was seen id Ids best form, and his score for the round iviu seventy-one. Mr. Duncan was also playing excellently, but. unfortunately, he missed two or three shorts putts, otherwise the match would iindouhtedly have been decided on the eighteenth green. The actual result was a win for Douglas and McCormick by three ii]> and one to play. Douglas throughout the matcli 'was playing right up to championship form, his wore -for the first half being 35, and for the.second half 30, but Mr. Duncan 'was responsible for some brilliant play, which roused the spectators to enthusiasm. At the seventh, for instance. (37(iyds), his tee shot being slightly pulled, he had to play his second over the long ridge, and playing a perfect iron shot he put his ball about three feet from the flag. Again, at the tenth (210 yds), his drive finished a few yards" past the pin, whilst at the thirteenth (400 yds) he played two perfect shots, which put him within easy putting distance, anil at the, next hole his tee shot found the green.
The whole of the proceeds from sales of tickets will go to the fund for our wounded soldiers, and it is expected that "when the return? are made up. within the next few days, the amount will be found to 'he over .£4O.
