The first important battle, which has been raging since Thursday, for the possession of Tolmino, is progressing favorably to the Italians.
BOMBARDMENT OF POLA,
AUSTRIAN WARSHIP DAMAGED.
A DESTROYER SUNK.

The Messagero says that during the aerial bombardment of Pola two Austrian battleships, manoeuvring, escaped, but collided. One was badly damaged. A" warship also struck and sank a destroyer.
AN AUSTRIAN RRPORT

Amsterdam, June 7.
An Austrian communique says the Italians had considerable losses at Montenero, Where three hundred were killed. The enemy's attempt to cross the Stronzo, near Sagrado, southward of Gradisea, was repulsed with heavy losses.
STATE OF SIEGE AT VIENNA,
ITALIAN ADVANCE CONTINUES.

Zurich reports that the situation in Vienna is very grave. A state of siege, has been proclaimed, and the dispatch of newspapers and letters to Switzerland has been forbidden. Rome, June ft.
Official: The concentrating movement of great masses of troops continues everywhere with perfect order. The advance continues on the front St. Elvis to the sea. The infantry is entrenching in powerful positions on conquered ground, strongly supported by artillery. Cardinal Gasparri is preparing a White Book, showing the Pope's diplomatic action in favor of pence, and explaining the cessation of the English and Dutch special missions. It coneludes by exposing the system of diplomatic pressure exercised by the AustniGcrman empires upon the Holy See.
The authorities have confiscated 57 Austro-Oerman steamers., totalling 210,770 tons.
Tt is reported that the Republic of San Marino has associated itself with Italy and has declared a state of war. ('San 'Marino is an independent repuibliv-. near the Adriatic coast. Tts area is 33 square miles, and the population 10,500. The army consists of 050 men and 38 officers.)
The encircling of Riva, at the head of Lake Garda, is proceeding systematically, though slowly, owing to the steepness of the mountains. The artillery at Pasubio is enabling the Italians to occupy the villages along the valley.
The Greek steamer Virginia was mined and sunk near Cape Salvore. The crew perished. During the attack- on Montoorado the Italians, by means of a few bombs, stampeded wild foufl'silocs against the Austrian entanglements, and smashed a way through.
