The patriotic football match' between tlie Trentham and Auckland football | teams was playpd in perfect weather.at Eden Park yesterday, and, despite . strong counter-attractions, there was an attendance of about 7000. The takings in aid of the hospital ship fund amount to nearly £3OO. 'At Okato on Saturday, Tukapa defeated t'be local team by 17 points to 0, after an interesting game. Okato, who were without the services of Carey, had the better of the forward play, and in the first spell scored two tries to l their opponents' one. Tlie Tukapa backs, however, were infinitely superior and, making tlie game more open in the second spell, added three tries, one of which was converted, and also a. goal from a mark. Whilst the local team did not increase their score. Ward set the ball in motion for Ta- | luvpa, who liad the sun in their eyes. | The local forwards at once carried plat | to Tukapa's twenty-five, where P. Corbett made a clash for the line, but was collared. The blues were kept hotly defending, and Harvey had two shots at goal for infringements, one of which just failed to open Okato's scoring aci fount. Tukapa forwards, headed by Norris and Waka, set -up a rush, and a passing movement by Skipper, Martin, Lovcridge and Coutts saw the latter collared on the line. Okato were forced. Counter forward rushes ended in neutral territory. A cross kick by Hockey nearly had Okato in trouble, hut Brennan saved. Eustace and Harvey here broke away, and Ryder, being pressed, centred right into Julian's arms, and the Okato forward scored behind the posts. Corbett failed to convert. Okato 0 ! Tukapa 0 Tukapa backs now threw the ball about, but the local team defended well until within two minutes of time, when Tito scored in the corner from ail opening bv Lovcridge. Martin failed to goal. Ward and Company cleared their lines, and with a strong forward rush they carried (lie plav to Okato's twenty-five, where tlie backs opened out, Coutts scoring from a passing rush, ill which Skipper and Lovcridge participated. Loveridge just missed adding the major points. The blues kept throwing the leather aliout, but couhl not penetrate the defence, and play ended witli the ball in midlield. Mr. W. Roch gave every satisfaction as referee. CLIFTON v. INULEWOOD. Clifton's journey to Tnglewood on Saturday was a fruitless one, the homo club being unable to. muster a team. The match will therefore go to Clifton by forfeit. THE KASPAR CUP. PUNIIIO 20 V. PIIIAMA 3. P'avinsT at Okato on Saturday in the Rasper Cup competition, Punilio defeated I'ihama 'by 20 points to 3. Trie's were scored forithc winners by Tina, .1. Ednvards, C.
