WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETIXG. At the monthly meeting of the above Board there were present: Messrs FusBell, Surrey and Turnbull. Mr. Fussell was elected chairman for the meeting. Correspondence was read from the Auditor-General, returning balance-sheet for the year ended March 31, 191 a, which had been certified. The principal items in .the balance-sheet were:—tieneral Account: Receipts (including balance brought forward, £057) £1585; rates collected £772, arrears Tales £2O, Government subsidy £125. The expenditure for the year on roads and bridges was £1030; printing, advertising and stationery, £11; salary, £35; revising roll, £7; accident insurance, £5; survey charges, £<!; legal charges, £6; and purchase of land for Richmond road deviation, £10; the credit balance at the end of Jtlie year being £402. The total public debt amounted to £3094, the interest on same being £144 per an nuin, and the rate per cent., including sinking fund was from 3% to 7'/s, this latter being for a loan for a period of 20 years. The total assets amounted to £B42,'but of this amount about £IOO ' is unrecoverable, being native rates. The credit balance of £402 in General (Account was due to contractors not having completed contracts which had been let. Mr. Fussell reported that the chairman (Mr. Lepper) and himself had inspected most of the roads, and had found them in fair order, but parts of ■the Kelly and. Te. Arei roads would be much improved if the county scarifier and roller could be obtained for reformation of same, and it was decided that the county be requested to allow 1 the Board to hire their plant. A pori tion of the Ackworth road, adjoining the Kelly road, required grading. The clerk reported that he had received £4 from Mr. ][. Hall, being donations from settlers on the Richmond road towards cost of deviation. The clerk was instructed (o p!acc all s outstanding rates in the solicitor's hands for collection. It was resolved that the members of the Board inspect the metal pit on ill'. 'Stimpson's property, as the surfaceman considered that the metal of Mr. Rowe's pit was unsuitable for putting it on the Kelly road. Notice of motion was given that a general rate of %d in the £ be struck at the next meeting of the Hoard. A further quantity of Jsyils of metal was authorised to be procured for the 8 Brown road, provided Mr. C. Iluskin is willing to assist the surfaceman in get- ., ting it out. 5 Resolved that tenders lie invited for the following amounts of metal for repairs to district roads:—Richmond, JSO ■Yards; Wovtlev. 150 vards: Waiiara. ioo yards; Kelly. 2(m yard*: Tate. 100 yards; Upper Te Arei. l.Vi yards; Lower Te .Arei, l-2t» yard-: Manntahi West, 100 yard*; Manutahi East, 50 yard*.
