BOWLING.

; THE HAWERA CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Hawcra Bowling Club on Monday,, it was shown i. that the indebtedness of the club had ', been reduced by £56 during the year. The liabilities were £145, and the assets ' £505. The president (Mr. W. A. Parkinson) said the club was getting into a position enabling it to consider making material improvements to the pavilion, but probably members would prefer not 1 to do anything for another year. ; The following officers were elected:—

President, Mr. W. A. Parkinson (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs E. 15. Bates and G. Syme (re-elected); secretary, Mr. A. Robertson (reelected); committee: Messrs J. Gray, S. Adamson, L. S. Tarrant, C. E. Hollard, R. Tait, J. P. Keen, W. Grant, W. Robertson, C. Robb; delegates to the centre, the president, Mr. Bates, and the secretary; auditor, Mr. D. G. Smart.

The president referred to the Banner competition, and said there was a general feeling that it was interfering somewhat with inter-club matches, and that a change would have to be made. The matter would no doubt come before the centre annual meeting, and the delegates to the centre would be glad of suggestions which could be submitted on behalf of the Hawera Club. Tho president of the centre, Mr. Penn, had suggested that the club winning the banner should hold it subject to a challenge from any other club, but as yet no detailed scheme had been proposed. Mr. J. P. Keen suggested that the banner should be competed for similarly to that of the Rugby football shield. Ths rinks should not be less than three rinks; four rinks should be ample. It was agreed that the incoming committee consider the matter, and make recommendations to the delegates.

The president said the executive of the Dominion Bowling Association had] referred the "two feet on the mat rule" to the centres for consideration, and the centres had passed it on to the clubs for their opinion. The present rule had met with a good deal of objection throughout the Dominion. The I-Tawera Club's rule was that the foot from which pressure came should lie wholly on the mat when the bowl was being delivered, and in the interests of the green it was a good rule. After a short discussion, a motion was carried that the club is of opinion that the rule providing for two feet being on the mat be abolished, and that the incoming committoo consider a recommendation as to what should take its place.
