The following is Mr. Rates' weather forecast:—Present indications are for moderate to strong southerly and southeasterly .winds, squally at times, between the Fast Cape and Kaikoura; cold and showery conditions are probable in the northern and east coast portions of the North Island, but improving shortly and fair to cloudy weather is likely to prevail elsewhere; the barometer has a further rising tendency, especially in |tho north. 1=
