At the inquest evidence was given that Mitchell was a -quiet patient witli aio suicidal tendencies. He was left for a few minutes, and went to a lavatory, where, 'be was found 'suspended iby a strop. A fireman named W. J. Douglas fell off a goods train at Moumahaki at midday, and was badly hurt. He was conveyed to Palmerston North hospital. LEAP FROM A STEAMER. Auckland, June 2. During the passage of the Talune from Raratonga a passenger named J. W, D. Noble created a sensation by suddenly jumping overboard in mid-ocean without giving any warning. The engines were stopped, and a boat lowered. Noble was picked up and brought aboard, not laving suffered serious results. He was placed under restraint till arrival at Auckland, and then handed over to the police.
