ALLEGED THEFT OF MAILBAG. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, June 2. This morning Detective Siddels (Wanganui) arrested Axel Edward William Lythberg on a charge of stealing a mailbag containing £l4O at Halcombe on, May 14 of last year. Accused appeared : before the Court this morning, and was remanded to Wangamii on June 11 Bail at £3OO was granted. POST AND TELEGRAPH SERVICE. . Wellington, June 2. A conference- of delegates of the Post and Telegraph Service opened yesterday. It was resolved that all officers be granted monetary payment for overtime, Sunday, and holiday duty, that the practice of granting time off to some junior exchange clerks be abolished, and the principal of monetary payment for Sundays and holidays 'be adhered to; that it is desired that all overtime be paid for twice monthly; that duty performed after 6 p.m. and before 8 a.m. on travelling post offices be paid at the rate of ninepence an hour; that a 44-hour week be the basis for officers working railway post offices, senior ' agents to receive an additional monetary allowance. Exchange clerks working from midnight to 8 a.m. should receive overtime in excess of 44 hours a week. BEE-KEEPING. Wellington, June 2. _ The fifth annual conference of the National Beekeepers' Association was opened by the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes. Mr. Massey, he said, was unable to be present, and asked him to express his good wishes for the industry, and to say he recognised the importance of the industry, and would give careful consideration to any resolutions the conference might pass. It is interesting to note that 11,200 people are engaged in beekeeping in New Zealand, representing 62,340 hives. The export trade is now on a' sound footing. Investigations showed there was no adulteration of honcv in the Dominion. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a deficit of £i'2 as between assets and liabilities. SHIPWRECKED CREW. , Auckland, Jtine 2. { Captain Stub and the crew of the Norwegian barque Fram, which was I wrecked at Maiden Island on February" 24, arrived by the Talune to-day. After the moorings were carried away only] half an hour elapsed before the vessel I went to pieces. The captain and crew seized lifebelts, and jumped overboard, leaving everything, even the sbip's papers, so perilous was the position, as the barque was being driven to certain destruction. They were buffeted in the surf a good deal, but none were liurt. r—— '' i"
