AMERICA'S ATTITUDE.

(To-the Editor.)

Sir,—T was pained to read an item from Bisliop Sadlier, of NeUon, in ffovir issue of this morning on tiio attitude of America on this war. "If I had ivy way," be writes, "we would not allow any Americans to land in New Zealand." His sole and only knowledge of American opinion 'has come to him from two American fellow-passengers, wb». evidently, relieved the tedium r:f the voyagebybaitingtheWshop. Thebisbop should know that all the American leading newspapers are not only strongly pro-English, but are at the present moment urging the nation to d3- ! are war on Germany. Bishop Sadlier and, indeed, some other New Zealand bishops, should not be encouraged by the papers to supply harmful and foolish opinions of this kind. They sliould endeavor to cultivate a knowledge of men and things, and not be entirely filled with their own importance. If you can kindly find room for a few lines of A. Sheppard's "America's Part in Playing the War Ijame," is might prevent jingoes and other stupid people from displaying their ignorance.—l am, etc.
