THE MODERATE LEAGUE. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, June 1 At a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Moderate League, the secretary (Mr. Armstrong) reported progress from the central executive of the Wellington League. It is intended to ask that regulations be made restricting the sale of liquor for consumption oil' the premises to special bottle departments in each hotel, such departments to close earlier than the bars. The league's programme includi'd the establishment t;f a special Government department to supervise the whole trade and the reconstituting of the local licensed authorities with fuller powers of investigation. FIRE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, June 1. There was a fire at the rear of the St. dames' Ifall in Wellington Street at. one o'clock this morning. It was suppressed with slight damage. There is evidence of incendiarism, a gas jet ill the lavatory having been turned on and a piece of piping attached, so as to direct the (lame on to the woodwork. BUTTER. TN STORE. Wellington, June 1.
