The number of cattle being registered yearly is steadily increasing, and Vol. 12, which is now in tbe press, will contain the pedigrees of (167 bulls and 802 'heifers, which will bring the. tolal up to li.V.ij and 4511* respectively, while certificates of transfer have been recorded for 421 cows and heifers and 505 bulls. These, latter figures show the sustained demand Which exists for-bulls for dairy 'purposes. During the year 104 cows have been granted certificates for authenticated records made under the supervision of the (Department of Agriculture; this brings the total number of tested cows up to 174. Your council again extends to tlie B&iry Division of the Department of Agriculture their keen appreciation for the v.o'k done by the officers of that division in the matter of testing, and also for the a-wistance given to the office of supplying any information required. Your council have under consideration tile advisability of presenting substantial cash prizes to be competed for at shows by cows holding authenticated records: cows to be judged on type. This matter will no doubt receive further and favorable consideration by the incoming council. Durin': the year a more extensive system of advertising has been adopted by the Association, and advertisements are- urf'w current in four of tlie leading newspapers of the Dominion. The system, together with the new pamphlet, "The Jersey Cow: What she .can do for the Dairymen of New Zealand," has been the means of bringing a very large number of requests from all parts for information about Jerseys. Attending to this class of correspondence now takes up a very considerable amount of the secretary's time. Acting under the recommendation from the last annual meeting, your council have increased the number of names on the official list of jugdes. This list now contains the Barnes of tliirtv-six breeders, and should be ample for all requirements.
