FOR THE FRONT.
APPLICATIONS REFUSED. During tlie past few days tlic Hawera defence officers have received many applications frbiti 'lads under twenty years of Sge for -registration for service with the expeditionary forces. The officers, 'while appreciating the offer of these young men,'rtgret that they are unable i 'applications. The Group-. Commander wishes it to be known that applications from lads under twenty cannot be considered. A correspondent, in 'writing to the Wellington Post on this subject, says: I believe that in Britain recruits are taken at 18 years of age, and in Canada at 19, and as far as I can .see New Zealand youths are as well 1 developed as those of the Motherland. Why insist that those enlisting here be 20?"
