THE HOSPITAL SHIP.

WAITARA'S PILLOW CONTRIBUTION (From Our Own Correspondent). Some .">0 volunteers, men and women, have been hard at work during the past three days and evenings for tlio 'purpose of providing some 750 complete pillows lor tlie hospital ship, and have used up in the process 12',)0lL> of kapoe, lUUOyds of calico and 1000 yds of thking. The sight of the men and women engaged in "teasing'' the kapoc was good to see. Covered with the thill' from head to font, they mut'u resembled good old Father Christmas, whilst tile amount of coughing and sneezing would make one think some sneezing powder was about. The earnestness of this big working bee could well he, emulated in other places, and little difficulty would then be experienced in providing a!) the necessary comforts for all our hoys at the front. The whole of the work of maTung was expected to he completed on Saturday evening, and to-day there will be a huge washing day, as all the pillow slips rcqui re to he washed. They will he sent by tiwiiomnv's train to Wellington, probably making the largest number of pil- | lows -complete made in such a short time. The whole of the work has been done by voluntary labor, everyone assisting. including the cartel's and machinists at the Freezing Works, who have sewn the bulk of the pillows. It is estimated that the cost will" he something like £IOO, and as the Mayoress' fund is in the vicinity of that amount, further sums received and to be received will be applied wherever those in authority deem most useful. Temporarily attention is just now being rivetted on the wounded sons of the New Zealand contingents. but tl:o Belgian fund will not be lost sight of at all, for it; is general'}' recognised that their need is still great | and further assistance is required. Waij turn will do its duty, and generally the outlying districts are ably assisting in 1 till directions.
