i VIOLENT GERMAN ATTACKS. FRENCH HOLD THEIR POSITION. PROGRESS MADE IN PLACES. Received May 30, 11 a.m. Paris, Mar 29. English aviators blew up an ammunition depot at Poelcapelle and a hundred Germans were killed and seventy-fivo wounded. Official: The British progressed near La Basse. The enemy's counter-attacks near Angres were continued with increasing violence, but they failed. They wero seven times attacked within twentv-Jour hours, but our artillery and infantry prevented any progress toy; the assailants'. The integrity of the position was maintained, despite a continuous bombardment of eltreme intensity. We progressed a hundred metres northward of Ecuri and took 150 prisoners in the I.e Pretre forest. We also progressed several hundred metres at Schnopfourieth, in the heights of Alsace. FRENCH CAPTURE ABLAIN. THE ENEMY PUT TO FLIGHT. AEROPLANE BROUGHT DOWN. Received May 31, 12.5 a.m. Paris, May 30. Official: We carried the whole village of Ablain, after very hot fighting, annihilating or putting to flight three German companies. Fighting continues at Neuville. We captured a fresh group of houses in the western outskirts, and brought down an aeroplane near Thiancourt. THE FRENCH AIR RAID. BIG INDUSTRY DAMAGED. Paris May 2S. The French airmen dropped 49 projectiles on the Ludswigshat'en factory and 30 on the factory; at Oppau, three kilometres away. Enormous iircs ana yellow smoke were seen. Great masses i of smoke enshrouded Ludwigshafen and i Oppau. All the aeroplanes returned except one, which was apparently hit and descended normally, but burst into flames. It is believed the occupants burnt it to prevent the Germans securing it. London, Jlay 28. At Ludwigshafen is one ot the largest works for manufacturing chlorine. Tho ; workers were recently increased from
twenty thousand to thirty thousand. They were engaged in filling cylinders. Amsterdam, ilay 2S. The German version o! the Ludwigshafen incident states tliat six civilians were killed and nine wounded. A great number of bombs fell at the soda*, works, illing five and wounding fifteen ibut lie work was not interrupted. GERMAN* BARBARISM. Paris, Hay 28. The Provincial Administrator at l'raiant has issued statistic.* which show hat during the German occupation of he Brahant district 5842 houses were turned and 10,000 damaged and pillaged.
