GISBORNE'S GREAT EFFOJtT. ' Gisborno, Last Night. The Gisborne carnival queen eloction concluded oa Saturday night, ,no less than 2,647,209 votes being recordod, re&l-, ising the huge sura of £22,000 la Bd, which is claimed to be the New Zealand record. In addition to this, the festival held in His Majesty's Theatre in conjunction with the carnival realised about £2OOO. It is expected a big sum win be raised on Coronation Day (Thursday next) and during the ensuing days. The result of the election was as follows: Miss Norma Loisel (Tolaga Bay), 984,4*0 votes, queen; Miss Kathleen Fromm (sports), 452,370; Miss Mary Taylor (Wuiapu County), 374,087; Miss Ivy Parker (Cosmopolitan Club and*commercial travellers), 310,827; Miss Vera McDonald (Wnikohu), 231,812; Mrs. A. Zaehariah (Territorials), 111,517; Mis* liita Carlton (rowing clubs), 74,314; » Miss Gladys Cooper (friendly societies), 50,215; Miss Gena Cumming (motorists) 3(i,1>21; Mrs. Grayson (Cook County) 26,- , 800, The ivhole of the proceeds go to patriotic funds.
