KILLED BY AN ENGINE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarmnii, May 20. There was a fatal accident at the Taringamutu Company's timber line, close to tlie Taringamutn railway station, yesterday, at 3 p.m. Frederick Drew, aged 3(1,' single, was driving a train of about eleven timber wagons from the timber yards to the station, assisted by T. Spe'uce, fireman. When within a quarter of a mile of the station tho engine ran off the line, and the locomotive overturned. Drew', was pinned under the engine, his leg being badly damaged. 1-lulp arrived, and the injured man was released in a semi-conscious condition. He lived for half an hour, but died before the doctor could arrive from Tanmartmui. Spruce was badly bruised on the head and body, but otherwise uninjured. A YOUNG LADY'S DEATH. Auckland, May 20." The body of a young woman found drowned in the harbor, three miles from Avoiulale, has been identified as that of Miss Constance May Carter, daughter of Mr. George Carter, of Northcote, who was reported missing Tlia body when found was clad in a light linen undergarment. It is surmised she got out of bed during the night under the influence of somnabulisin. HOCKEY IX WELLINGTON. Wellington, Last Night. Owing to the introduction of the Saturday half-holiday the Mid-week Hockey Association played its final game to-day. The association lias been in existence for ten years. Mo*t of its players are iiovf throwing in their lot with the Saturday Association by entering two teams ill fie junior competition, while others an* individually joining Saturday clubs. Fetone has won the mid-week cup for the .fifth year.
