I THE AIOXTIILY MKICTIXU. I' The usual monthly meeting of the ] I'aranaki Education Board was held I yesterday. I'resent: Alcssrs If. Trimbls , (chairman), A. Alorton, E. Alarfell, .). Alackay, A. M. Bradbury, R. AJastcrs, ,J. Young, and O. A. Adlam. A report was received from the .finance Committee recommending that Air. A. Cray's salary be increased to per annum, increased by file annual illcreases of .Dill to .C-Ji'i. Ociier suggestions in Air. Cray's romiiiun'catioii to the board were not considered advisable. The recommendation was agreed to.
STRATFORD 111.011 SCHOOL. The secretary of tlie Stratford district, high school forwarded two resolutions passed at the householders' meetings. (1) That tlie Minister of Kilncation be approached with a view to impressing upon liini the necessity of the establishment of a h gh <chool at Stratford, as tlie number of pupils now attending the I primary and secondary departments of the district high school had reached /Till, and will certainly continue to increase; (2) that ill any arrangement of education districts the necessity of retaining the Taranaki District be pointed out, also urging the enlargements of the district to embrace the whole of the province. The committee requested the board to endeavor to further the realisation of these wishes. Air. .Masters said there were 7f>o chilj dren attending the school, and something would have to be done shortly. The chairman agreed that sonic improvement was absolutely necessary, and the chairman and Messrs Masters, Alarfell, and .Alackay were appointed a committee to report on the question. TIIL TLCIIXICAL COLLI:oi<;. 'I lie chairman said when Air. Isaac ((lie department's inspector) was in New Plymouth he pointed out. to him the necessity of enlarging the Technical College buildings. Air. Isaac suggested that, a two-storey building should be erected in brick on Hie east of the pi- ;- ent grounds. The board had been granted 11711 to bi' spent on electrical plant, but they had no place to establish il. Mr. Isaac also recommended that if this was done a smaller scheme could be adopted in connection with the main technical building,. It was decided that application b" made to the Department for a grant for the additional accommodation at the X'ew Plymouth Technical College in accordance with the plans supplied by the overseer.
I TECHNICAL DIRECTOR'S REPORT. Tin' Technical Director (Mr. A. (Inn ) reported:— The quarterly examination results reveal a very satisfactory state of progress. Five additional typewriters have come to hand for the use of the commercial class. The department lias approved of expenditure for the dill'erent classes as follows:-Electrical engineering apparatus .CIOS 15s. applied art .-C2ti Is lid; commercial class equipment C 7 lis (id; mechanical engineering £4O Bs •id. This ifcldition to the apparatus will bring the equipment I'airlv well up to date. '1 he report was adopted. ovi:iixi;r.!rs report. The overseer reported that minor alterations and improvements had been carried out, at Kiore, Tluiroa. and Omata schools, lie also stated that the drainage at Tikorangi school required attention. The additions to the Tatarainiak.-i school were well in hand. The report f.ddcd:—As recommended by the technical inspector, I have got out a plan for ii two-storey engineering workshop anj lecture j-ooju combined, to be done ill brick. 1 respectfully submit specifications and general conditions for furniture supply. The specification provides two prices, one for furniture in the Hat and one for the complete work. The report was adopted, and if v.-a.V decided that tenders be called fur furniture as suggested.
