HELP FOR OUR BOYS.
APPEAL BY THE MAYOR OF NEW PLYMOUTH. The Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. J. E. Wilson) writes us follows: — Sir,—-The opening of a fund for the assistance of any of our men who may be disabled in the country's service, anil for the families of those who may be killed or rendered unable to help their families in need is very necessary, as will be admitted by everyone. That 1 proposed to have the matter brought before the Patriotic Committee on Friday next was known, but my Rood intentions to take the lead have been anticipated. I am writing now to say that there will he an ollicial fund opened. I think it only fitting that such a fund should be organised by the Patriotic Committee, of which 1 am chairman. The question of this fund was discussed at last Friday's meeting on another motion then under consideration, and I think every member of the committee then present recognised that the next thing to do was to collect money for this purpose I believe that, through the generosity of the people in New Plymouth and those parts of the district acting in concert with the town we have sufficient money subscribed to provide our share of the Dominion Belgian Fund for nearly two years, and in my opinion provision for our people should now have the paramount claim. I have already had a very generous offer for the fund, and T have no doubt that it will have even better support than has been given to the other relief funds.
