CEREAL GROWING.
'ifll; MAVoirs iiuvpohal. Mr. W. <!ray. of Okato, speaking to a Xcw.s reiiresentalhc yesterday, said flic idea .if (lie Mayor of .Yew Plymouth to enlist townsmen to assist farmers in growing special cereal crops was an excellent and commendable one. Local farmers had their hands very full at cropping time. They were going from early morn till late at night. In the middle, of the day they could probably find a few hours which they could devote to harvesting, hut they must be certain of assistance in the morning and evening, when they were engaged with their cows, hefove they could consider (lie cultivation of special crops. Townsmen could come to the rescue here. They would, of course, need to be organised. They would require direction from practical farmers, of whom there were plenty in retirement in Xew Plymouth,' anil who doubtless would be only too pleased to assist the cause. Farmers could manage all but the stocking and stacking. Townsmen organised and directed by the retired farmers, could manage this quite well. Mr. Oay felt sure that if the farmer:; were assured of adequate help in the Hooking and slacking there ''■on 1 ' 1e a generous and rcadv response to Ct ii"i(a!ion to ii':'. ii' cc'ival .toik.
